Big deadline Friday for the 4th on Broadway | KLBK | KAMC

LUBBOCK, Texas – In 2020, events big and small have been forced to cancel, change and modify. The fourth edition of Lubbock on Broadway, postponed last year and then adapted for a blockbuster television format, features the biggest and best event in its 30-year history. In 2021, the most recognizable change will be an all-new, contiguous, safer and more secure Sonic Parade Course, all in Mackenzie Park.

The Sonic Parade begins at the corner of 19th Street and Canyon Lake Drive and heads north to Joyland, via Canyon Lake Drive and Cesar E. Chavez Drive inside Mackenzie Park.

The new route has several advantages. These include less restricted viewing areas throughout the parade route, better parking options, and a more comfortable experience for participants on the grass of the park system.

“Lubbock has worked for years to increase the use of this beautiful historic park in East Lubbock,” said Broadway Festivals, Inc. President Don Caldwell. “Since its inception in 1991, 4th on Broadway has moved various elements of this celebration to Mackenzie Park from downtown Lubbock. The Sonic Fashion Show rerouting will finally bring the whole event together in Mackenzie to deliver more connected production throughout the day and evening for the community to enjoy.

Free parking, sponsored by Caprock Cardiology, will be provided along the parade route between 19th Street and Broadway, comfortably accommodating massive audiences who can easily park just a few steps from a prime vantage point. Paid parking will still be available at the South Plains Fairgrounds and in a large lot at the corner of Canyon Lake Drive and Broadway, directly across from events in the park.

Caldwell says the proximity to the new Sonic Parade route and daytime and evening events, as well as the additional parking, will allow for a full and fluid day of activities for families, visitors and all participants in Mackenzie Park.

“From the Sonic Parade to the Alderson BMW daytime concert stages, the Fibermax Kids Zone and singer / songwriter Lubbock Music Now stage to the Covenant Children’s Fishing Tournament hosted by Cabela’s, to the River Smith’s catering contest in the cool areas of Sunbelt and at night with the United Supermarkets evening concert and the Gorilla Law Firm fireworks extravaganza we want this event to be welcoming to everyone Caldwell said. “We think a safer and fresher start through Lubbock’s beautiful park system is a great way to start the day.

Businesses, nonprofits and other organizations are encouraged to secure their place in the parade and benefit from a reduced registration fee before the early registration deadline of May 7.
