For SS22, designers played with different colors, textures and stripe sizes to create impact, from bright and bold stripes at Brandon Maxwell, Emporio Armani and Christian Siriano, to a woven fringed striped dress at Chloé. And you can’t talk about stripes without mentioning Paul Smith (above): multicolored stripes have been at the heart of the brand since the beginning. This season they have been mixed with sunflower prints and contrasted with a palette of sun-bleached lemon and rich terracotta.

Successfully wearing stripes is all in the style. Take a striped piece as a focal point. Shirts are a great place to start: Kitri’s ruffled shirt (1 below) or La Redoute’s long-sleeved version (8 below) are both perfect to wear with denim, wide-leg jeans to the mini-skirt, with thick moccasins.
A wrap-around diagonal strip may be easier to wear. Stine Goya’s Scharla sweater (7 below) in pastel hues is perfect with crisp white wide-leg pants. We Are Thought’s pink and white Breton (£39.95) is a fresh take on the nautical trend, as is Boden’s contrast sleeve in pink and red (£35). Or go all-in like Lashana Lynch (left) in an all-over striped ensemble for maximum thrills. Asos’ yellow and white striped seersucker mini dress with puff sleeves and a high neck (£85) is the perfect summer dress and can be dressed up for an event with gold accessories. Meanwhile, the quickest way to jazz up an outfit is with a colorful striped bag. Oxfam’s spacious shopper (£4.99) and Oklahoma market bags make the supermarket cheerful and will double as beach or picnic bags.
