When she’s not walking for Versace at Milan Fashion Week, covering magazines around the world, attending the Cannes Film Festival or writing bestsellers, Emily Ratajkowski is simply trying to juggle with the life of a young mother in New York. . The 30-year-old model gave birth to son Sylvester in March 2021, and she’s the first to admit motherhood has changed just about everything, especially her fashion priorities.
“Well, now I love dressing her up so much,” Ratajkowski told POPSUGAR. “I feel like I’m basically a baby stylist. And most of the time, depending on naps and such, I won’t have much time to get dressed, which is okay. That often means I’m kind of a mix of looks.”
A true street style star who always gets caught by the paparazzi, Ratajkowski has had more flexibility to think things through and strategize for her pre-motherhood appearance. She would take her time trying on different outfits before going out.
“I don’t have that kind of space to play like I used to,” she says. “But that being said, I’ve kind of learned to balance that. And especially now that it’s warmer, I’m like, ‘OK, I feel like I should try to pull myself together while putting it on. together.'”
Ratajkowski’s go-to outfit formula is all about comfort and practicality. “Sneakers, of course, and I’ll do a pair of leggings,” she says, adding that she’s particularly fond of flared leggings right now. “They make me feel a little cooler, a little cooler,” she shares with a laugh. “And then sometimes I just borrow one of my husband’s oversized coats and throw on a sweater.”
Ratajkowski’s latest collab with Italian shoe brand Superga couldn’t be more perfectly aligned with her current approach to fashion. She had first worn their sneakers while walking her dog in New York.
“I was smitten with them and was a fan of the brand, so when they reached out, it just felt really natural for us to do something together,” she says. “I also love Italy and have worked with many Italian brands, so I love that aspect as well.”
As brand ambassador, she wanted to put her own spin on two of Superga’s most recognizable styles, choosing to customize the Superga 2750 and Alpina. Ratajkowski liked the contrast of these two styles: one was a little more classic and the other a little more avant-garde. She kept the customizations minimal (like off-white bindings and rounded laces) to create a “really simple and awesome sneaker.”
“I mean, I love wearing sneakers with a dress, especially since it’s warmer in New York,” she says. “It’s the most comfortable but still chic look you can do. Other accessories, like what you do in terms of bags and jewelry, can dress it up. A bigger bag makes it more casual, but if you do something tiny and rather sexy, it can be perfect for the night.”
While #momlife undoubtedly changed Ratajkowski’s personal style, she’s still known for incorporating countless ’90s fashion trends into her wardrobe. Before, she talks about her sideburns and how she would expertly style them.
