The England women continued their unbeaten run under Sarina Wiegman with a 4-0 win over Switzerland in their final game before Euro 2022.
The Lionesses dominated the game and broke the deadlock thanks to Alessio Russo’s second-half header, which capped off a strong performance from the Manchester United striker.
A penalty from Georgia Stanway and headers from Beth England and Jill Scott were enough to secure the 4-0 win ahead of the tournament, which begins on Wednesday.
Honestly, England could have racked up that score in the first ten minutes, but they wasted many chances to take the lead.
First, the ball fell nicely to Chelsea’s Fran Kirby inside the penalty area after good work from Keira Walsh, but her close-range effort was saved well by keeper Seraina Friedli.
It was Lauren Hemp who then tried her luck, after a clever counter-attack alongside Wiegman.
Beth Mead and Russo led the attack, but the Arsenal winger was too slow with his pass, which left Hemp surrounded by defenders, and she could only manage a tame shot on goal.
The best of three opportunities again involved Russo and Hemp, the latter worked the ball well down the flank, driving past a defender and whipping a ball into the face of goal.

Russo managed to get the end of the delivery and it looked destined to be 1-0 after the Swiss keeper fumbled her effort but managed to pounce on the ball before it crossed the line.
More dominant play from the Lionesses followed, with the next best chance coming from a free-kick, when Rachel Daly’s header was cleared from the line.
The second half started the same way and, after a period of sustained pressure, they took the lead.
Daly sent an incredible ball to the back post, where Russo sent a powerful header into the goal and into the far corner.
The Red Devils striker has banked on a serious claim to start England’s first game of the tournament against Austria on Wednesday.
Hemp was another player to impress and she was denied a fantastic goal, when she connected acrobatically with a cross, who was again stopped on the line.
In the ensuing scuffle, however, the Lionesses were awarded a penalty after a handball, which Stanway adamantly converted.
England’s third was scored by England, as Mead headed home to make it three, while 153 cap midfielder Scott capped the win as she nodded in time. ‘stop.
The comfortable win will please Wiegman, who also keeps his unbeaten record as boss intact heading into the European Championship.
